This is definitely one of my favorite books and probably my first sci fi romance If I can findwith this amount of quality, it surely won t be my last Not only did it have a GREAT story with wonderful characters I couldn t help sympathizing with, it was also packed with action and the techie futuristic goodness I love in my sci fi books.I often liken this to the new Battlestar Galactica only written better andcoherently Fans of the show will love this story of a future where humank This is definitely one of my favorite books and probably my first sci fi romance If I can findwith this amount of quality, it surely won t be my last Not only did it have a GREAT story with wonderful characters I couldn t help sympathizing with, it was also packed with action and the techie futuristic goodness I love in my sci fi books.I often liken this to the new Battlestar Galactica only written better andcoherently Fans of the show will love this story of a future where humankind is fighting a war on the outside and also prejudice within it s own walls.Caitlin Driskoll is our heroine She is a strong minded and strong willed woman who was once wife to a Navy JAG officer before being cryogenically frozen The cryos, as they are called, were once people who were nearing death and ended up frozen to prolong their life for the future Caitlin is one of the cryos now waken up and placed into the military to work their keep She awakens during this new century at a tumultuous time when cryos are treated like second class citizens, especially since they were well off in the previous century and the marines have believed they have cheated death.Colonel Medoro Keegan is our hero A man who lost his wife and child and now serves as Executive Officer with a close knit relationship to his Marines Keegan has closed himself off to any contact even when his attraction begins once he sees the lovely Caitlin Driskoll As the story goes on, Caitlin and Keegan butt heads a bit and there s also some tension between one of Keegan s officers who doesn t like cryos This is definitely a military romance in that we see the inner workings of how the Marine structure works in this particular future.I can t say enough goodies about this story and I ll probably be rereading it again as a comfort read in the near future I hope Ms Dargin releasesbooks because I d sure love to check out what other stories she has to offer. If you love futurustic sci fi military romance, definitely check out Cold Warriors

Cold Warriors is marketed as an atypical interracial romance, but I m not certain that s an accurate description The story follows Caitlin Driskoll, a former high school English teacher, and Medoro Keegan, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marines.Caitlin awakens from a cyrogenic statis 90 years in the future to find that the world as she knew it no longer exists The reader isn t given much information about Caitlin s background or what life was like for her in the past other than her being a high s Cold Warriors is marketed as an atypical interracial romance, but I m not certain that s an accurate description The story follows Caitlin Driskoll, a former high school English teacher, and Medoro Keegan, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marines.Caitlin awakens from a cyrogenic statis 90 years in the future to find that the world as she knew it no longer exists The reader isn t given much information about Caitlin s background or what life was like for her in the past other than her being a high school English teacher, who was courted for two years before marrying Lieutenant Jason Driskoll, a JAG lawyer We re told that she was hospitalized for a cold that got out of hand and that s the last thing she can recall. The story didn t jive for me I had entirely too many questions and not enough answers to satisfy my curiosity I m very much intrigued by the sci fi genre but in my opinion, Cold Warriors had too much information in some places and too little in others The lingo became a bit technical and hard to follow and I found myself skipping past parts Ms Dargin provides a glossary at the beginning of the book but I didn t find it at all helpful The romance between Medoro and Caitlin left a lot to be desired It seemed forced There wasn t enough of a slow burn and his allowance of her continual mistreatment by his superiors and his so called best friend left a sour taste in my mouth. This was my first time reading Ms Dargin s work and I have to say I find myself in a conundrum The editing was phenomenal, despite one or two minor grammatical errors and the writing was good However, the way the plot was executed failed to captivate me The potential for this story to be epic was there but I was left scratching my head.Overall, I was very intrigued by the premise, which is why I will read Book 2 in the series, Ice and Peace My curiosity has gotten the best of me The way Cold Warriors ended, I have to know what comes next once Caitlin and Medoro resume life on earth Not sure if I would recommend this one, but just to see if questions from Book 1 are answered, I will read and review Book 2 Reviewed by Natalie

Cold Warriors by Clare Dargin is the first in a series called The Cold Warriors Universe This first installment features a woman named Caitlin Driskol who is awakened from a cryogenic stasis to find the future world in turmoil She is revived in the middle of a war and discovers that as a ground soldier, her life is expendable and limited She meets a Marine and their stormy, passionate romance serves as a stark contrast to the brutality of their lives. This is science fiction at its core There Cold Warriors by Clare Dargin is the first in a series called The Cold Warriors Universe This first installment features a woman named Caitlin Driskol who is awakened from a cryogenic stasis to find the future world in turmoil She is revived in the middle of a war and discovers that as a ground soldier, her life is expendable and limited She meets a Marine and their stormy, passionate romance serves as a stark contrast to the brutality of their lives. This is science fiction at its core There s even a glossary of terms in the front The futuristic military angle dominates the narrative This plot structure gives the book a cold feel no pun intended here While the romance angle does add a warmer, human touch to the plot, it is often overshadowed by the action driven military aspects Dargin s characters, while a bit harsh but consider their circumstances are believable, well developed, and their relationship is an interesting part of the narrative The concept is fascinating, if not disturbing Freezing people just to thaw them out for combat at a later date It s the ultimate dehumanization of warfare without going entirely over to machines Dargin s work is not for everyone It s the first in series I m not a fan of serials, but this one does stand alonethan other serial novels I ve read It s also contains elements of erotica which might not sit well with traditional science fiction fans I suggest that readers get over that here and now and take this one It s an interesting, well crafted read that crosses genres nicely.http bookloversnevergotobedalonerev
